Paulo Álvares is considered one of the most important interpreters of contemporary music worldwide over the past fifty years. His multifaceted artistic legacy is especially evident in his creation of polystylistic improvisations, through which he effortlessly dissolves the often conservative boundaries between musical genres.
Within the framework of the festival, he creates an improvisational palimpsest in continuous dialogue with a Vlach polyphonic ensemble traveling especially from Drenovë Albania to meet him at Psarades Square.
The widely traveled Brazilian Álvares, who has been based in Cologne for the past thirty years, improvises on polyphonic melodies from Northern Epirus and greater Albania, creating a new sonic world — beyond the modern, resistant to aesthetic categorization, and in harmonious resonance with the waters of the lake.
The participation of Paulo Álvares is supported by the German Consulate in Thessaloniki
